WASHINGTON — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports it exceeded its enforcement goals during fiscal year 2008. The agency said its emphasis on identifying and eliminating serious safety and health hazards has resulted in a record of 80 percent of all violations issued being in the most serious categories.

While some states are struggling to come up with money to pay unemployment benefits, Michael Morris, director of the West Virginia Unemployment Compensation Division, said the state’s jobless benefits fund is in no danger of becoming insolvent. “At the end of November, the fund had a balance of $249 million,” Morris told The Inter-Mountain in a telephone interview Wednesday.
